Publishers needing funding beyond what is available through grants can submit a proposal for TAULT’s Sponsor-a-Book Program, which seeks to pair individual donors with in-progress book projects.

The Ukrainian Book Institute’s Translate Ukraine Grant Program

Financed by Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and intended to support the translation of Ukrainian literature—fiction, nonfiction, and children’s—into any language, the Translate Ukraine Grant Program awards 4000 euros toward translation and licensing costs. The grant program is held once a year, and winning books must be published by late fall of that year. In 2020 and 2021, open calls were held in late spring.

House of Europe’s Translation Grant Program

Open to publishers in the EU and UK, the House of Europe’s literary translation grant program awards 4000 euros toward the publication of adult fiction and nonfiction books. Funds may be used for translation, licensing, design, publishing, and marketing costs. Open calls for the program are held twice annually, in the spring and in the fall, and winning books must be published within 18 months of receipt of the award.

The European Commission’s Creative Europe Literary Translations Grant Program

The Creative Europe Grant Program supports the translation and publication of a “package” of works of fiction, including from Ukrainian, into eligible languages. Intended for larger presses, open calls for the program are generally held in late spring and are open to presses registered in the EU and UK.

The Ukrainian Institute’s Lysiak-Rudnitsky Grant Program

Funded by Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Lysiak-Rudnitsky Grant Program seeks to promote knowledge about Ukraine’s past and present through publications and programs abroad, including translations of academically oriented books into world languages. Open calls are expected to be announced in early summer, and winning books must be published by late fall of that year.
